Motivational Techniques and Rewards
Each Saturday, we make it a priority for the youth to feel valued and respected at the program. Written by our participants, our “Agreement” is; be respectful to myself and others, one mic, leave my baggage at the door, try to do my best and have fun.
At the end of the day we hold an “Appreciation Circle” where the students share their appreciations of people from the day. It may be another student whom they appreciated getting to spend time with, or a volunteer that took extra time to help them solve a math program or teach them how to play hoops outside.
We also reward those students that went the extra mile during the activities and have “Kid of the Day” awards chosen by the board members and volunteers.
